I married my best friend. Seriously. We were “just friends” for ten years before we dated. I once told him that I wished he were a girl so he could be a bridesmaid in my wedding. We actually decided to get married before we started dating. Three months later we were engaged. Twenty-one years and six kids later, he is still the love of my life.
Now, I wouldn’t be honest if I implied that we had never had snags along the way. We have. Many times. Sometimes I want to wring his neck. I know he feels the same. But I love him. Very, very much.
So, why do I love Mont?
First thing that comes to mind is that he still makes me laugh. The kids often say, “Quit encouraging him, Mom!” But deep down they love it. Despite a busy medical practice, he plays with his kids in the front yard, coaches their teams, schedules “Daddy Date Nights”, and tucks them in at night—even the older ones.
He is the kind of ear, nose, and throat doctor who will give a diagnosis of “Funk in the Trunk” or “Fowl in the Canal”. Or he may look seriously at a 10-year-old patient and say, “You may think it’s funny, but it’s snot.”
He is also the kind of doctor who prays for his patients. And he prays for himself to be a better doctor, a better husband, a better dad, and a better servant of the Lord.
He is not perfect. But he has given his heart to the One who is.
I love Mont because he loves Jesus more than he loves me, which makes his love for me better, purer, more complete.
So, on the occasion of his birthday, I wanted to say to the world that I am very thankful to be living this life with my best friend. Happy Birthday, Mont!

I’m so thankful for Dr Mont! When I got my tonsils out I had NO problems. I know it was because he prayed for me and because I fully trusted him. I’m thankful that I have gotten to know the whole (awesome) Berry family over the years! Y’all are such a blessing! Happy birthday Dr Mont!!
